Fire protection is split into two zones: Wauconda Fire District serves homes north of Miller Road and Lake Zurich Rural Fire Protection District serves homes south of Miller Road.

The Village of North Barrington has a volunteer elected government which consists of six trustees and a village president. Government officials serve four year terms and elections are held every two years in March. North Barrington School serves as the area polling place.
